TeachFirst NZ
Teach First NZ provides a world-renowned leadership development programme to well-rounded, high- achieving graduates who are looking to make their first job count.
Today in Aotearoa New Zealand we have one of the largest gaps in student achievement in the developed world. In low-income communities, only 6 out of 10 students leave school with NCEA Level 2, compared to 9 out of 10 students from high-income communities. These statistics make it clear that not every kiwi kid gets the same chance.
The Teach First NZ leadership development programme offers graduates the opportunity to make a real difference where it matters the most. As part-time secondary school teachers serving a low income community, Teach First NZ participants are given high responsibility and leadership opportunities from the
get go.
Participants also develop world-class teaching skills while studying on a scholarship towards a post-graduate qualification in secondary education with the University of Auckland.
After the two year programme, participants join a worldwide alumni network of over 45,000 and choose where to take their leadership skills next – whether in Government, academia, business, leadership within schools or an NGO, alumni are supported to realise their leadership capacity in order to affect positive change in Aotearoa New Zealand.
