The Treasury

Helping to raise living standards for New Zealanders is at the heart of everything we do.

By joining us as a new or recent graduate, you are signing up for a career that sees you working for the government’s lead economic, financial and regulatory policy advisor - helping the government of the day make informed decisions across a wide range of areas.

Our graduates work in a variety of teams - from Housing, Education, Natural Resources and Health, to Forecasting, Analytics and Insights, Commercial Advice and Regulation.

The projects we get graduates to work on are varied and extensive. You will find yourself producing policy, briefing managers and ministers, researching, collating, and evaluating complex data, and working with other public sector departments, private sector organisations and the general public.

In our 18-month Graduate Programme, you will be challenged with genuine responsibilities from week one in the office, participate in a professionally designed development programme, network with some of New Zealand’s top political and influential leaders, and realise a true sense of accomplishment by helping to raise living standards for all New Zealanders.

Few graduate roles (if any) in the public or private sector can offer this kind of influence, responsibility, development and exposure.

Here are some quotes from recent graduates:

“See policy in motion and work with the best economic and policy minds in New Zealand. You don’t get that anywhere else.”

“If you are interested in the big picture for New Zealand and where it’s going, this is the place to be.”

“I feel like I’m doing something that’s worthwhile, and I have the freedom to work how I want.”

We are focused on improving the living standards of ALL New Zealanders and are excited to see new Treasury graduates each year contributing to this in real and tangible ways.

We believe in the work we do. We are passionate about the difference we are making to New Zealand, and that our efforts are positively changing the landscape we live in – we would love you to be a part of this.
